Ford Korea achieves record sales since brand's launch

While the Ford we Americans are familiar of are continuously slumping, Ford Korea has posted record sales of its cars in South Korea since its inaugural launch in 1997. In 2007, the brand has sold 2022 units of various Ford and Lincoln cars in the line-up. The last record was set in 1997, the year of the brand's launch, with 1810 units sold. Five new models were also launched in 2007 including the Lincoln MKX, MKZ, Ford Explorer Sport Trac, Escape, and New Taurus. Over at the Lincoln department, the brand announced a 350% increase in total sales from 2006, showcasing the brand's recent mass appeal in the market.

The brand's best-selling model, the Ford Five Hundred, achieved a total sales number of 435 units in 2006. The successor to the Five Hundred, renamed the New Taurus, has seen respectable sales of 352 units since its launch in August 2007. Creating a storm in the compact SUV market, the Ford Escape saw an increase of 62% in sales from 2006 with 308 units sold.

The current Ford Korea line-up has seen substantial popularity as of recent, catering to the various tastes from the New Taurus for the premium crowd to the Mustang for the enthusiasts. Other offerings include the Explorer, Explorer Sport Trac, Escape, Lincoln MKZ, MKX, and Town Car. The recent surge of popularity will likely only increase with the anticipated introductions of new cars for 2008 such as the Ford Mondeo and S-MAX. Ford Korea has set a higher sales target for the new year of 3000 units, a 50% jump from the past year and a number they will most likely achieve.

Frankfurt: 2008 Ford Kuga

The Kuga has been unleashed. The Blue Oval has released all the official goods on its latest crossover that will vow in Frankfurt next week. The Kuga, based closely on the Iosis-X Concept, will only be available in Europe. That's a pity because the Kuga is a real looker. The Kuga is penned upon the Kinetic Design theme that started out with the Iosis Concept.

The Kuga is powered by a Duratorq 2.0L diesel that produces 136 horsepower. No further details were announced on the availability of other engine options, but the diesel is speculated to be the top-seller in its home market. Other nifty features the Kuga houses include optional 19-inch chrome wheels, a Blaupunkt navigation system and Intelligent 4WD. The Kuga is destined for showrooms in early 2008. For now, an official press release and a hi-res image gallery ought to satisfy you, after the jump.

PRESS RELEASES:

FRANKFURT PREVIEW FOR NEW FORD KUGA CROSSOVER

COLOGNE, Germany, September 5, 2007 – Ford is releasing the first details of its new Kuga crossover at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, where the car will be previewed ahead of production early in 2008. The Kuga will be previewed alongside the new Ford Verve Concept small car and other exciting new products yet to be revealed on the show's first press day, September 11th.

The All-New Ford Kuga in Brief

-Stylish Ford Kuga crossover will be previewed at Frankfurt Motor Show in near production form ahead of sales launch in early 2008
-Inspired by the iosis X Concept that was revealed at the 2006 Paris Motor Show
-Kuga is the latest showcase for Ford's 'kinetic design'
-Impressive on-road driving dynamics with substantial off-road ability
-Model range features 'intelligent' 4WD and FWD systems
-Powered by Ford's acclaimed 2.0-litre 136 PS Duratorq TDCi diesel engine
-Benefits from strong Ford Focus lineage
-First crossover designed and developed in-house by Ford of Europe
-To be produced at Ford's Saarlouis plant in Germany

Ford of Europe's product portfolio is expanding again – and in another new direction. The new Ford Kuga is an exciting 4WD crossover that combines style with technology and promises impressive on-road dynamics coupled with substantial off-road ability.

The new Ford Kuga will go on sale throughout Europe during the first half of 2008. "When we unveiled the stunning iosis X Concept car at the 2006 Paris Motor Show I promised that in less than two years we would enter this segment with an all-new vehicle developed and built in-house," said John Fleming, President and CEO, Ford of Europe.

"In delivering that promise, the commitment we also gave in Paris two years ago to add new and exciting niche vehicles to a newly energised Ford of Europe portfolio was also kept," Fleming added.

"Kuga offers a rare blend of a wagon and SUV features together with coupé-like sporting qualities," said Stephen Odell, Vice President for Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe.

"A major element of our strategy to return the Ford of Europe business to sustained profitability is the introduction of exciting new products – like Kuga – that attract new customers to the brand," explained Odell. "The S-MAX proved to us that there is demand for vehicles which offer the customer universal usability for work, leisure and family roles and where "driving pleasure" is also very important."

Unmistakably a Ford

One of the challenges of the Kuga development team was to give the vehicle Ford's acknowledged driving quality while at the same time delivering substantial off-road ability.

For this reason, the Ford Kuga will be available with an intelligent four-wheel-drive system which contributes positively to normal road use and helps give the vehicle an almost sporty dynamic ability. The fact that the Kuga will also be available as a front-wheel-drive only version simply emphasises the crossover concept of the vehicle.
Kuga's powertrain will feature Ford's established and highly fuel efficient 2.0-litre, 136 PS Duratorq TDCi common-rail diesel engine mated to a Durashift 6-speed manual transmission. Further details of the Kuga powertrain will be released closer to launch in early 2008.

Kuga Design - Standing Out

"Our kinetic design form language is very flexible and is giving an exciting look to all our new vehicles," said Martin Smith, Executive Design Director, Ford of Europe. "The iosis X Concept demonstrated how kinetic design could be adapted to the C-sized crossover segment of the market. All the expressive design elements of iosis X are clearly visible in the production vehicle. The new Ford Kuga is a dramatic addition to the Ford portfolio which develops our brand significantly."

Kuga closely follows the proportions and basic dynamic forms of the iosis X. This relationship is enhanced by the paint finish in the same unique 'Ice White' body colour and the bold wheel arches are filled with the same alloy wheels, as seen on iosis X which will be available to customers as a 19-inch option. Strength and athleticism in the design are key attributes of Ford's 'kinetic design' philosophy. Kuga demonstrates this through its dynamic lines, full surfaces and muscular presence. This athletic form language is highlighted with the bold kinetic graphics such as the trapezoidal front grills, rising belt-line and kick-up of the rear window graphic and the dramatic swept back headlamp shapes.

For the production Ford Kuga the coupé-like roof profile of the iosis X Concept has been adjusted to a slightly higher silhouette offering comfortable accommodation for five people.

The luggage compartment is accessed via a split tailgate and this, together with the divided rear lights, ensures the maximum full load width is available for loading and unloading.

Finally, the rear end design of Kuga also incorporates the graphic elements of 'kinetic design' such as the high mounted tail lamps, facetted rear glass and sculptured rear bumper. The rear bumper neatly integrates the tailpipes into the contours of the diffuser.

Kuga Interior – Space and Comfort

The interior of the new Ford Kuga has a spacious feel – and not just because of the large panoramic glass roof fitted to the preview model and available as an option in production.

The clean, ergonomic design of the instrument panel and centre stack converge into a voluminous centre console for maximum accessible storage. These interior components contribute to a comfortable surrounding for the driver and front seat passenger. The high seat and shoulder line position of the doors offers the opportunity for maximum glazed areas to give a light and airy environment for passengers and provides the driver a commanding view of their surroundings.

The materials chosen for Kuga's interior also demonstrate the close links to the iosis X Concept. In Kuga we see once again technical materials, fine leathers and striking orange piping. The Ebony interior is set off by a centre console and details in the door which also feature the piano-white finish from iosis X. All these elements together show how Ford intends to enable Kuga customers in the future to personalise their vehicle.

A hint of the technology coming in Kuga is seen in the new Blaupunkt navigation system which incorporates a 7" colour display to also show images from a rear view camera incorporated into the tailgate. This new feature, to aid reversing manoeuvres, will find its way to the production version of the Kuga.

"We're very excited about Kuga, and believe that its blend of great looks, compact exterior dimensions, superb on-road driving quality, spacious and high quality interior and good off-road ability will allow it to stand out from the crowd," said Fleming. "We can't wait to see it on and off road early next year"

Frankfurt: Ford Verve Concept

Ford has released all the official goodies regarding their newest concept car, the Verve. The name can be misleading, but this is none other than a concept preview of the next Fiesta B-segment vehicle. The good news is North Americans will be getting it as well, as the demand for cheap and fuel efficient vehicles grow everyday. The precursor of the Fiesta follows the kinetic design theme, already utilized on the Mondeo, S-MAX and the new Kuga. The front end is highlighted by a massive chrome-slat grille. The side and rear, however, look production-ready and certainly more civilian.

We take a look at the interior and we're mighty impressed as well, regardless of its concept status. The interior is likely to be carried out nearly identical when the Fiesta hits European showrooms in late 2008. The Fiesta, which will share platform with the Mazda2, will also be available in our local Lincoln/Ford/Mercury dealerships in spring of 2009. Alan Mulally desperately wants the European Fords sold in North America too. He knows they're better than what we got. Continue reading to view a hi-res image gallery and the official press release.

PRESS RELEASE: Ford Verve Concept Hints at Ford's Future Small-Car Design Vision

FRANKFURT, Germany--Ford Verve Concept - a bold and colourful concept car to be revealed at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show - gives the first hints of Ford's future small-car design vision.

The significance of the Ford Verve Concept is that it's the first physical evidence of the design direction for an all-new small Ford since it was announced earlier this year that the European arm of the company's global Product Development group is taking the design and engineering lead in creating a new small-car portfolio for major world markets. The Ford Verve Concept is the first of three concept vehicles which will debut in key regions - Europe, Asia and North America.

"Ford Verve Concept is presented here in Frankfurt as a bespoke concept car to generate reactions while our production plans are taking shape," said John Fleming, President and CEO of Ford of Europe. "Our Design team took an unrestrained approach to how our future small cars could look, and this eye-catching concept was one of the results. If we get the reaction we expect, I'm certain that the team will incorporate elements of this advanced design vision into our final production design. This will make the next generation of small cars from Ford very compelling indeed."

Finished in rich colours and distinctive materials inspired by the world of fashion and cosmetics, the Ford Verve Concept was created by a team of designers from Ford's studios in Dunton, England, and Cologne, Germany.

Building on the kinetic design momentum of Ford's recent iosis and iosis X concept cars, and the more premium feel of production models like the new Ford Mondeo, the Ford Verve Concept is a bold expression of a small-car vision.

As product development of a new generation of Ford small cars continues behind the scenes, Ford of Europe is hoping to gauge public reaction to the Ford Verve Concept during the Frankfurt Motor Show.

2008 Ford Kuga crossover (Iosis-X) to debut in Frankfurt, sketch released

This one is added to our huge list of European Fords that we want, but we don't get. I think we have enough to start a petition. Ford unveiled the Iosis-X Concept in Paris last fall, which was a preview of Ford's future crossover for the European folks. The Frankfurt Autoshow is right near our door and Ford released some teaser information along with an attractive sketch of the vehicle.

Named the 'Kuga', the crossover will sit on Ford's C1 platform, which also underpins the Ford Focus, Mazda3, Volvo S40, and the Land Rover LR2. The Kuga is Ford's attempt to combat the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and the Nissan Qashqai. The name, which distinctly sounds like a British pronounciation of Mercury's Cougar, clears any speculations made like the X-MAX. The design, which derives from the Iosis-X Concept, seems to have stayed intact in the concept to production transition.

The Kuga is slated to go on sale across Europe in early 2008. Folks in North America will have to deal with the Escape for quite a bit more, which still runs on rear drum brakes by the way. Continue reading to view the official tidbits from Ford. Mind you, it's German (we think Google needs to tweak the translator a bit more).

Offroad-Fähigkeiten", erläutert Ford of Europe Executive Design

offiziellen Bild kommunizieren", kommentiert Smith.

Ford preps for 2008: Line-up at a glance

Every automaker is prepping for the 2008 model year and Ford released information and images of their 2008 line-up today. All-new 2008 models were already announced, and today, we get to take a look at what Ford's keeping and changing for the rest of the line-up.

The cars we're highlighting in this post are the 2008 Ford Edge, 2008 Ford Expedition, 2008 Ford Fusion and the 2008 Ford F-150. The big news for Ford this year is the inclusion of Sync, co-developed with Microsoft, for most vehicles in the line-up. And yes, the Ranger is still alive and going, with the addition of an iPod jack and standard tire-pressure monitoring system for 2008. Continue reading to view what Ford has in store for 2008.

2008 Ford Edge
In addition to the introduction of the optional Sync, changes are style-wise only for 2008. A Limited model is added to the line-up, which includes standard features such as an Audiophile sound system with nine speakers and chrome beltline. A new Interior Appearance Package adds leather-trimmed seats with premium red seating surfaces and contrast stitching. New options include 18-inch wheels and 20-inch wheels available on the Limited trim. Four new colors are now available: Vapor Silver Clearcoat Metallic, Light Ice Blue Clearcoat Metallic, Dark Ink Blue Clearcoat Metallic and White Sand Tri-Coat.

Convenience features added for 2008 include a one-touch up-and-down driver window and an available Homelink universal garage door opener. A major option that is now available on the 2008 Edge is the Sync, which is a voice-activated multimedia system using Bluetooth technology. Power liftgate is also available and a new tailgate handle allows more convenience than before.

2008 Ford Expedition
For 2008, the Ford Expedition benefits from the addition of the King Ranch trim. The King Ranch adds unique 18-inch machined aluminum wheels and King Ranch badging, chrome exhaust tips, Pueblo Gold exterior accents and heated power mirrors with signal, memory function and security approach lamps. In the interior, it is equipped with King Ranch Chaparral leather seating in all three rows. Other Chaparral and wood trims throughout the cabin top out the list. The King Ranch trim is already available on the F-150.

New options available throughout the line-up are power running boards and a rear-view camera system. Updates for the Expedition include body-color front and rear fascia, wheel lip moldings and side cladding on the XLT trim, which replaces the black color on the previous model, new optional 18-inch chrome wheels on the XLT. Standard all across the board for 2008 are keyless entry keypad, electrochromic mirror, heated power mirrors, leather-wrapped steering wheel, auxiliary A/C, full overhead console, illuminated visors and second-row map lights. Standard in the Limited and King Ranch trims are power adjustable pedals, power rear quarter windows, universal garage door opener and Reverse Sensing System. A chrome-tip exhaust standard on the Eddie Bauer model tops out the list of changes of the Expedition for 2008.

2008 Ford Fusion

The main highlight of the 2008 Ford Fusion is the inclusion of Sync, with brackets stating 'late availability'. The 2008 Fusion is now standard with ABS and tire-pressure monitoring system. A new option is a reverse sensing system and a keyless entry keypad system standars on the SEL trim. A new Sport Appearance Package is equipped with a black chrome grille, color-keyed fog lamps, 18-inch tires and aluminum wheels with painted pockets, sport-tuned suspension, a unique spoiler, chrome exhaust tips, unique red seat inserts (cloth or leather) and red stitching on the seats, steering wheel and center console.

New colors are available in the 2008 Fusion: White Suede Clearcoat, Moss Green Clearcoat Metallic, Vapor Silver Clearcoat Metallic, Dark Ink Blue Clearcoat Metallic and Light Sage Clearcoat Metallic. Optional ambient lighting tops out the changes of the 2008 Ford Fusion.

2008 Ford F-150
For 2008, the F-150 receives a variety of changes to keep it fresh for one more year until the redesigned version is unveiled. The main highlight of the changes is the Cargo Management System, which is optional on variants of the F-150 with the 6.5-ft. Styleside box. Two side rails, a pair of bins, a pair of crossbars and a header bar make up this new feature. Here's an excerpt from Ford's press release describing the Cargo Management System:

-Strong extruded aluminum double channel rails allow multiple accessories to be installed. Rails have cleat positions every 90 millimeters accommodating a wide range of cargo. Easily adjustable, cast aluminum cleats are designed to hold over 600 pounds.
-Extruded aluminum crossbars hold up to 100 pounds and feature T-Slots on all four sides designed for non-traditional attachments such as hanging skis or fishing poles from the bottom.
-Side mounted, blow-molded plastic, tool bins can hold up to 60 pounds and feature double wall construction, providing a watertight, thermal barrier that keeps beverages cold when used as a cooler.
-Push button lock on the bins automatically keys itself to the first ignition key that is turned in the lock, enabling the owner to use one key for all the bins.

A rear-view camera system is also available as an option. Upgrades of the 2008 F-150 models include a standard tachometer for the F-150 XL and STX models, factory-installed remote start system, a tire-pressure monitoring system for the Heavy-Duty packages and two new colors: Stone Green for all models and Mahogany for the flagship King Ranch trim.

Rest of the line-up
The Escape and Escape Hybrid received a major facelift, overhauling both the exterior and the interior for the 2008 model year. They were announced at the Los Angeles International Autoshow in January and went on sale soon after.

The aging E-Series commercial van benefited from a minor facelift for the 2008 model year. Major changes include a new front fascia adopted from the Super-Duty and improved chassis and handling. The 2008 E-Series was announced at the New York International Autoshow in April.

The Focus was redesigned for the model year 2008. The hatchback and the station wagon models were dropped in favor of an all-new coupe variant. In addition to the new exterior, the Focus received an all-out redesign of the interior. The new Focus is available with Microsoft's Sync which allows electronics to be integrated to the automobile via voice activation through Bluetooth technology. The 2.3L engine has been dropped for 2008.

The Explorer received multiple changes for the 2008 model year. In addition to Sync, the Explorer is the first Ford vehicle equipped with capless fuel filling system. Other options are new 20-inch wheels and three new colors: Stone Green Clearcoat Metallic, Vapor Silver Clearcoat Metallic and White Suede Clearcoat Metallic. Limited models also receive power adjustable pedals with memory and Homelink.

The Mustang receives an array of new standard features and options for the 2008 model year. The Mustang is now equipped with side curtain airbags standard in all trims. New available features include HID lamps, ambient lighting and 18-inch wheels on the V6.

The Ranger, the everlasting truck from Ford that never seems to die out, lives on for 2008. Tweaks are added to the range-topper FX4 Off Road including standard heavy-duty Rancho twin-tube gas shocks, increased rear spring rates, Class III Trailer Tow Package, skid plates (front, middle and rear) and sport bucket seats. A new limited-run Grabber Orange color is also added in the line-up. To round it off, the 2008 Ranger will receive new wheels and a standard auxiliary input jack.

Bloomberg: All NYC cabs to be hybrids by 2012

That's right. Michael Bloomberg, the current mayor of New York City, announced plans of replacing the current taxi fleet of 13,000 into hybrids by 2012. The plan takes effective immediately as the current hybrid cab fleet of 400 will be increased to 1000 by October of 2008. The current hybrid fleet consists of mostly the Ford Escape Hybrid, Toyota Prius, Toyota Highlander Hybrid and the Saturn Vue Green Line.

The plan also announced that by October 2008, all taxi cabs would have to have minimum fuel consumption of 25mpg. By 2009, it will be increased to 30mpg. The popular Ford Crown Victoria taxi cab only gets 15mpg by the 2008 EPA standards, whereas the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid serves up 34mpg. Since all taxi cabs in NYC will suffer major traffic congestion and slow cruising speeds, emissions would drastically decrease and mileage will increase. The reason being that a hybrid motor stays all-electric in low speeds, something which NYC cabs will face commonly.

Ford introduces new Harley F-150 with optional 450hp V8

Ford and Harley-Davidson do a great deal in business co-operatively and one great example is the Harley-Davidson Ford F-150. Based on the F-150 SuperCrew 4x2, last year's model churned out 300hp, powered by the 5.4L Triton V8. Until then, 300hp was enough to get us all crazy, especially for a pickup. However, with the recent debuts of many sub-$30K vehicles that easily exceed 300hp, the Harley was overshadowed. The 2007 model adds an optional 450hp V8, brought to you by SALEEN. This supercharger is also found in the Shelby GT500.

Ford also revamped minor details such as the grille and badging. The Harley now sports a 6-bar chrome grille coupled with some Harley-Davidson badges here and there. The 300hp V8 is the standard powertrain while the SALEEN supercharger is a $6500 option. The Harley F-150 will have a base price of $37,210 in addition to a $925 destination charge.

"They told us they wanted a performance equipped truck so we worked with Saleen to bring the supercharged F-150 Harley-Davidson™ to market in rapid fashion."

The supercharged F-150 Harley Davidson™ is available in ebony black or dark amethyst with plenty of gleaming chrome, 22-inch oversized wheels and tires and a custom scalloped stripe that runs along the beltline that creates a glued-to-the-ground appearance. "Harley-Davidson" script runs along the bedside in three-dimensional chrome letters. Blacked-out headlamps and a unique chrome billet grille give it a distinctive, bold front-end.

Among other highlights:

* The SALEEN supercharger option is available through Ford dealers for $6500 MSRP. Base F-150 Harley-Davidson™ pricing starts at $37,210 MSRP including $925 destination and delivery.
* The twin-screw supercharger is the same style as the one in the Shelby GT-500.
* A dual-stage water-to-air intercooler increases the supercharger's efficiency and adds performance by cooling the intake air.
* The volume from the exhaust is cranked up into a sustained growl.
* An available gauge pod with boost (PSI) and air-charge temperature (ACT) gauges monitors the system's performance.

The 2007 F-150 Harley-Davidson™ truck is the ninth model to emerge from a Ford/Harley-Davidson™ partnership that began in 1999. The co-branding of the two storied 104-year-old companies has proven to be a successful formula with total sales of Ford F-Series Harley-Davidsons™ of nearly 60,000 units.

Honda CR-V jumps to #1 in sales, Ford Explorer loses title of best-selling SUV

Throughout the 90's, the Ford Explorer was the best-selling SUV in America, racking up sales of 445,157 in 2000 alone. However, in the last couple of years, sales of the Explorer have plummeted from first to fourth in sales ranking. Last year, Ford sold only 179,229, and are down another 23% for the new year.

In the Honda department, there was good news with the CR-V picking up 42% in sales so far this year. It went up to the top spot, followed by the Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, and the Ford Edge, which is also seeing a strong surge. Since the demand for the CR-V has exceeded the production capacities for its East Liberty, Ohio plant, extra units from Japan are being brought over.

Ford wins top honors as "most trusted" brand in the UK, seventh year straight

The folks over at Dearborn must have learned some sort of a lesson when they heard their counterpart over in the UK was voted the most trusted brand, seven years straight. Reader's Digest conducted a survey done by its subscribers to determine which carmaker wins their heart the most. With over 24,000 participants and competitiors from 15 different countries and 38 product categories, Ford beat them out and was voted #1, seventh year straight.

[Source: Motor Authority]

Continued- Article

The survey name might indicate that Ford was chosen as the "most trusted" brand, but there were many criterias that ultimately chose Ford. Value, image, quality and customer relations with such assets as "responsibility towards the environment" are just a few to mention.

This survey first began in 2000, and Ford won all of the honors for every single year. Here, we're starving for some of that acclaim as Ford USA is slowly going down the drain. We have to give props to the Flex though, which exceeded our expectations, and we are eager to see how the Flex does by the numbers when it goes on sale next year. Ford of Europe consists of a spectacular line-up including the 2007 European Car of the Year, the S-MAX, the Mondeo mid-size which just received a redesign this year, and the chic Focus.

Next Ford Fiesta set to arrive in US in 2009

The next-generation Ford Fiesta subcompact hatchback will arrive in the US in 2009. Motor Trend conducted a short interview with Ford execs, and it appears the redesigned version will go on sale in Europe in 2008.

The US version will look nearly identical to its European counterpart, said Martin Smith, Ford of Europe Design Chief. The North American (and the European) version will retain the "Kinetic" design theme found on the Mondeo and the S-MAX, instead of using the "Bold" design theme found on the Taurus, Edge, and Flex.

[Source: LeftlaneNews]

It will definitely be a "Kinetic-design" car, noted Smith. Most likely, the Fiesta will cue the trapezoidal grille, sharp headlights, and bulging wheel arches, all cued on Ford's Reflex Concept shown in early 2006.

The Fiesta is set to launch in the US sometime in late 2009, and will share platform with the recently introduced Mazda2 (Demio in Japan). The next Fiesta will lose some of its body weight and will feature a 1.6-liter powertrain. Expect a wider variety of petrol and diesel engines when it hits market in Europe in 2008.

PRESS RELEASE:

NEW LIMITED-EDITION 2007 FORD SHELBY GT500 OFFERS MUSTANG ENTHUSIASTS A CHANCE TO HIT THE REDLINE

-Production of limited-edition Red Stripe Appearance Package for 2007 Shelby GT500 to begin in May.
-Special package includes unique exterior striping and badges, Red and Black leather seating, special interior trim and logos and branded Shelby GT500 car cover.
-2007 Ford Shelby GT500 tops in segment quality, says RDA Group research-92 percent of owners would definitely recommend the vehicle to family or friends.

DEARBORN, Mich., April 19, 2007 – Even with demand for the most muscular Mustang ever – the Ford Shelby GT500 – at a record high, Ford is cranking up additional interest with a new, limited-edition package that adds unique visual appeal to the Shelby GT500. Enter the "Red Stripe Appearance Package," to be available beginning in May.

The Ford Shelby GT500 is the most powerful Mustang on the road today and arguably one of the most successful projects from Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT) in terms of performance, excitement and, importantly, quality.

In fact, early indicators show the Shelby GT500 is a quality standout. In the most recent Global Quality Research System (GQRS) study from RDA Group, an independent research company based in Bloomfield Hills, Mi., the Shelby GT500 earned praise as the highest-quality Mustang model, with the fewest "things gone wrong" in the first three months of ownership.

The Mustang line scores above the segment average in quality, according to the GQRS study, and the Shelby GT500 specifically scored the top result in the "sports car" segment.

"The unmatched quality and power of the latest Mustang masterpiece explains why 9 out of 10 owners are completely satisfied with their overall ownership experience," the April 2007 RDA Group report concluded.

New Limited-Edition Shelby GT500 Package to be Available Beginning in May

The new Red Stripe Appearance Package will be available on any new 2007 Shelby GT500 Coupe with either White or Black exterior paint. Included in the special-edition package are Bright Red overbody and bodyside stripes, a Red and Black leather interior, unique red-accent exterior badges, including red-tinted Cobra emblems in the grille, fenders, and in the faux gas cap on the rear panel. Even the "SHELBY" letters on the decklid feature red accents.

The Red Stripe Appearance Package also adds unique new premium floor mats with a Red and Silver embroidered "Cobra Snake" logo, plus a fitted Shelby GT500-branded car cover.

The appearance package carries an MSRP of $1,650 and will be available from early May through late June, marking the end of the 2007 model run.

"The red package is all about exclusivity," said Robert Parker, Ford's Car Marketing manager. "Our Mustang customers are eager to buy unique vehicles like the Shelby GT500 and will certainly appreciate the opportunity for something even more exclusive, made in an even more limited number. These are great customers and very passionate. I'm glad we can continue to deliver what they want."

Shelby GT500 is among the Most Successful Performance Mustangs Ever

Enthusiasm doesn't begin to describe the ongoing demand for the Ford Shelby GT500. In the hyper-competitive auto market where supply routinely surpasses demand, the Shelby GT500 still has a long waiting list of buyers.

The Shelby GT500 was created by racing legend Carroll Shelby and Ford SVT and is a modern interpretation of the classic Shelby Mustang of the 1960s. Beneath the hood of every GT500 – including the new Red model – is a 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 engine officially rated at 500 hp. A 6-speed manual gearbox features evenly spaced gears that help provide a sharp, lively driving experience on both road and track.

In addition to the engine upgrades, Ford's SVT engineers retuned and upgraded key Mustang chassis components. Improvements include revised shocks, spring rates and upgraded stabilizer bars that help the Ford Shelby GT500 maneuver with authority.

The GT500's unique design features include wide upper and lower fascia openings with a functional air splitter. On either side, slanting headlamp openings add to the dramatic front appearance. The carefully tailored hood has heat extractors protruding near the leading edge, combining to provide improved airflow and aerodynamics.

The MSRP of a 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 starts at $41,675.

Ford recalls 527,000 Escapes

Ford is recalling 527,000 Escape sport-utility vehicles because of a problem in the antilock braking system that could cause fires, the company said Tuesday.

Missing or incorrectly installed wiring harness seals on the Escape's antilock brake connector could allow water and other contaminates such as brake fluid or road salt to enter the ABS connector causing corrosion.

[Source: Winding Road via CNN News]

Continued- Article

The corrosion, in turn, could "lead to an illuminated ABS warning indicator, an open fuse, and in some rare instances smoking, melting or burning of the electrical ABS connector," the company said in a statement.

The recall affects 444,880 Escapes from the 2001-2004 model years in the U.S., as well as 82,000 Escapes in Canada, Mexico and Europe, Ford said.

The hybrid version of the Escape is not included in the recall, although the Mazda Tribute, which is essentially a twin of the Ford Escape, is being included, according to spokesperson Kristen Kinley.

Ford said there had been about no reported accidents or injuries. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been investigating the issue.

Under the recall, Ford dealers will inspect the antilock braking system for corrosion and replace it if necessary.

Ford expects non-Mustang RWD cars within five years

While GM may have put its RWD ambitions on hold for the time being, rival Ford still has plans for a new rear-drive architecture. Ford North America president Mark Fields said the first vehicles would arrive within the next five years, according to the latest GoAutoNews newsletter.

"I'd say that we are looking at that very, very closely," Fields said. Like GM's Zeta platform, Ford's new RWD architecture will also come from Australia.

It's not known if the next-generation Mustang will also share the platform, or if it will continue on its own architecture. The Mustang will receive a facelift for the 2009 model year, and a complete redesign — with a new platform — for 2012.

Earlier this year, Ford revealed the Interceptor concept, which was built on a modified Mustang platform.

NEW YORK, April 4, 2007 – Ford Motor Company redefines the modern American family journey with the introduction of the 2009 Ford Flex, a full-size crossover that sets a new standard for style, features, functionality and comfort in the U.S. industry’s hottest segment.

“The new Ford Flex crossover is a game-changer. It’s the first vehicle of its kind that combines seating for seven, interior spaciousness and surprising features with a striking design that looks great on the road and at home for today’s modern American families,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s president of The Americas, as he revealed the new vehicle at the 2007 New York International Auto Show. “The Flex builds on Ford’s leadership in crossover vehicles, which is the fastest-growing part of the auto market today.”

On sale in the summer of 2008, the Flex is arriving as crossovers continue to outpace even the remarkable growth of SUVs during the 1990s and minivans of the 1980s.

Last year, crossovers surpassed traditional SUV sales for the first time, and they are trending toward annual crossover sales of 3 million units by the end of the decade. Such growth likely will make crossovers the first or second largest vehicle segment in the U.S.

“Flex is another example of Ford creating more of the products that our customers really want,” Fields said. “Ford intends to define crossover vehicles this decade just as we did SUVs in the 1990s.”

The Flex joins the Edge and Taurus X in Ford’s expanding crossover lineup. Ford’s success with crossover utility vehicles is substantial. In March alone, the company’s U.S. crossover
sales were up more than 40 percent over last year – led by the success of the new Edge.

Redefining the Family Journey

Bold, expressive design and exclusive innovations define the new Flex.

“The Ford Flex has the power to move people emotionally as well as physically,” said J Mays, Ford’s group vice president of Design and chief creative officer.

“This crossover has been created for people who know it’s the journey – not the destination – that matters most,” Mays added. “Its upright, upscale design, versatility and clever touches allow Ford Flex to stand out in an increasingly crowded sea of crossovers.”

The Ford Flex brings to production the Ford Fairlane concept vehicle that turned heads at the 2005 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

“Flex is following in the tire tracks, so to speak, of Ford vehicles like the Taurus, Explorer and Mustang. It’s the next iconic Ford,” said Peter Horbury, Ford’s executive director of Design for The Americas. “It shatters today’s image of people movers.”

Flex’s signature exterior design includes:

-Ford’s signature chrome horizontal three-bar grille, which builds on the family “face” that defines the Ford Edge and Taurus X crossovers, as well as the Ford Fusion sedan.
-A unique, all black “greenhouse” – defined as the windshield, rear and side windows,
and the pillars separating and connecting them to the roof. The design brings together seamlessly the body with the available multi-panel roof. Customers can pair a White Suede or Silver roof option with one of Flex’s 10 available exterior colors or choose a body-color roof.
-Standard 18-inch or available 19-inch bright aluminum wheels, which plant the new crossover firmly on the road.
-Flex’s integrated rocker panel design, which eliminates the need for customers to step over the rocker panel when getting in and out of the vehicle.
-Edge-inspired taillamps, which are outlined in chrome. Flex Limited models have LED taillamps and a brushed satin finish metal appliqué spanning the center of the liftgate.

Interior Quality

Inside, Ford Flex delivers textures, features and functionality – including segment exclusives – that create an ideal atmosphere for discerning customers and their families.

“More than 90 percent of crossover customers make their vehicle purchases based in part on
the overall quality of interiors,” said Kate Pearce, Flex marketing manager. “When they see
the Flex’s exterior, they’ll be intrigued. When they see its interior, they’ll fall in love.”

Flex’s interior provides a level of craftsmanship inspired by fashion and furniture design,
with modern materials and soft touch points.

Details include tweed-like fabric for the base-level Flex SE’s seats, with inserts in a miniature houndstooth. Meanwhile, the Flex SEL features a soft insert with a more pronounced grain on the seat bolsters, while the Flex Limited features unique diamond-pattern perforations on the leather seat inserts. Contrast stitching also is available on leather seats and the center console.

Cool Features Built Right In

Flex is set apart from other vehicles thanks to a long list of surprising features. They include:

-Class-exclusive refrigerator, mounted between the second-row captain’s chairs. Unlike competitors’ systems that merely keep cold beverages cool, the Flex’s available compressor-driven refrigerator can cool up to seven 12-ounce cans, four half-liter bottles or two 20-ounce bottles from room temperature to 41 degrees in just more than two-and-one-half hours. That’s 40 percent faster than a standard home refrigerator.
-Multi-Panel Vista Roof™. It not only brightens the interior, it gives Flex occupants seated in each row their own special skylight.
-Second-row, best-in-class legroom, including class-exclusive adjustable and removable footrests. The Flex’s second-row seats fold and tumble to provide access to the third-row and fold flat into the floor for added cargo space. An available one-touch system folds and tumbles the second row.
-Seven-color programmable ambient lighting. Flex owners can choose interior lighting to fit their mood. With this feature – which also is being introduced on the 2008 Ford Focus – customers use a dashboard switch to change the lighting on two LEDs mounted on the front console, two on the footwells and two around the cupholders.
-Capless fuel filler system. This exclusive feature eliminates the likelihood of forgetting to put the gas cap back on after fueling. It also saves time by doing away with unscrewing and replacing a fuel-filler cap and provides a better seal, cutting down
the emissions of smog-forming vapors.
-Ford Sync™, Ford’s industry-exclusive, voice-activated hands-free in-car communications and entertainment system. This available system fully integrates mobile phones and digital media players into the vehicle. The Sync in-car communications system was developed in collaboration with Microsoft and will be offered exclusively on Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles later this year.
-Ford’s next-generation navigation system, featuring voice recognition technology and more than 150 hours of music storage. Users can browse the music jukebox via touch-screen or by using voice recognition. They can also create custom play lists and burn CDs for storage on the system’s hard drive. The system also integrates the climate control and SIRIUS Satellite Radio into one easy-to-use, smudge-resistant, 8-inch touch-screen display. Premium AM/FM/MP3 audio systems also are available with a six-CD changer, auxiliary jack to accommodate MP3 players and the latest generation DVD entertainment system with a large 8-inch, drop-down screen.
-Ford’s exclusive second-generation door-entry keypad . Housed within the vehicle’s black B pillars, the flat-panel, backlit keypad eliminates the need for door-mounted buttons and gives customers the ability to unlock doors, disarm the alarm system and disable the auto-lock function by entering a five-digit code.
Quiet, Confident Ride

The Ford Flex’s chassis was designed to be capable, including more than 4,000 pounds of towing capacity, while still delivering the quiet, confident ride that crossover customers demand.

“A quiet ride is no longer a luxury,” said Gary Boes, Flex chief engineer. “It’s something
that customers have come to expect from their vehicles and equate with quality. Flex has
been engineered from the onset with reduced noise, vibration and harshness in mind.”

Engineering advancements include a new independent rear suspension system (IRS) with
unique geometry that allows for better tuning to deliver a broad range of capabilities without compromising the interior package. Interior noise was minimized by using sound-deadening materials in the dash panel, headliner and under the carpeting.

In addition, a 6-millimeter thick windshield helps reduce wind and powertrain noise, while specially selected tires make road noise nearly unnoticeable.

Powerful V-6 with AWD

Flex is powered by Ford’s award-winning 3.5-liter V-6 engine and is mated to a fuel-efficient
6-speed transmission. The powertrain is expected to deliver more than 260 horsepower,
245 lb.-ft. of torque and good fuel economy.

Flex’s available intelligent all-wheel-drive system is tuned to provide confident driving in all weather conditions. Intelligent AWD uses an active, on-demand electronic center coupler to allocate a precise amount of torque from front to rear – up to 100 percent to either axle. The system also can anticipate wheel slip before it happens.

Safety Families Demand

Flex comes equipped with features that reflect Ford’s commitment to keeping customers and their families safe and secure. The new crossover’s body structure has been optimized with side intrusion beams in the doors, strategic use of high-strength boron steel and specially designed, energy-absorbing interior door trims.

Other safety advancements include:

-Rear back-up camera. Mounted in the bottom of Flex’s liftgate badge, the available camera is activated when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, giving the driver a view of what’s behind the vehicle. The system works in conjunction with the vehicle’s reverse sensing system and uses the navigation screen as a display.
-AdvanceTrac ® with RSC ® (Roll Stability Control). This system can predict a vehicle’s path, using a sensor to measure oversteer and yaw by monitoring the vehicle’s speed, throttle position and steering wheel angle. When the system senses wheel slip or the loss of traction, it applies braking where needed to keep the vehicle safely on its intended path.
-Ford’s Personal Safety System. This suite of safety features includes dual-stage driver and front passenger air bags, thorax side air bags for front seat occupants, safety belt pretensioners, seat weight sensing system for the passenger seat and crash severity sensing.
-Ford’s exclusive Safety Canopy ® side curtain air bag. Designed for all three rows, this feature utilizes roll-fold technology to efficiently deploy the air bag when an occupant’s head is resting against the side glass. In the event of a crash, the roll-fold bag will deploy between the occupant's head and the side of the vehicle.
-Ford’s BeltMinder™ safety belt reminder for driver and front passenger. Flex also comes equipped with such standard features as child safety locks on the rear doors, the trunk LATCH system and Ford’s tire pressure monitoring system.

New York: 2008 Shelby GT500KR

This morning, Ford announced that the mighty King of the Road Shelby GT500KR will be making a return in the spring of 2008 -- just in time to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original. Only 1,000 of these special Mustangs will be built, and they will definitely be the fastest ones yet! The team at SVT is tweaking the 5.4L supercharged V-8 with new calibrations, a cold-air induction kit and 3.73:1 final drive ratio. The KR will be rated at 540hp/510lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful Mustang ever.

[Source: Autoblog]

The suspension has been recalibrated to give improved steering feel and crisper handling. An underhood cross-brace is added to improve chassis stiffness, which also helps the steering feel. Visual changes include a new carbon composite hood with scoops patterned after the original KR's and new Shelby-designed wheels. The show car is equipped with 20-inch rolling stock, while the production version sticks with 18-inch versions of the same design. The lower front valence features a pair of air intakes leading to functional ducts to cool the front brakes.

The Cobra badges will get special 40th Anniversary branding and an individually numbered plate will sit in the center of the dash to remind everyone that this car is one of only 1,000 units. There will be no convertible model and pricing won't be announced until closer to production almost a year from now, although you can probably expect an MSRP somewhere close to $50,000 and retail prices well above that. The old chicken farmer, Carrol Shelby himself, will be on hand for the unveiling in New York on Wednesday.

MORE MUSTANG POWER: FORD SHELBY GT500KR 'KING OF THE ROAD' RETURNS IN 2008
2008 Shelby GT500KR

-Celebrating the fortieth anniversary of the original Shelby Cobra GT500KR, Ford and Shelby collaborate on a new 'King of the Road' Mustang with the 2008 Shelby GT500KR.
-Shelby GT500KR features an estimated 540-hp 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 with a Ford Racing Power Upgrade Pack, 3.73:1 rear axle ratio, short-throw shifter, and unique suspension tuning.
-Exterior design draws inspiration from the classic Shelby KR Mustangs and features unique carbon composite hood, wheels, and special 40th Anniversary badging and unique striping.
-Shelby GT500KR arrives in spring 2008 in an exclusive run of only 1000 units.

DEARBORN, Mich., March 30 - Ford and Shelby Automobiles are at it again, this time in celebration of the fortieth anniversary of the 1968 Shelby Cobra GT500KR. To be unveiled at the 2007 New York International Auto Show, the 2008 Shelby GT500KR-the most powerful Mustang to date-will once again mark Mustang as 'King of the Road.'

"I'm proud to once again be a part of an historical moment, bringing back the 'King of the Road' Mustang, and collaborating with Ford SVT and Ford Racing" said Carroll Shelby. "I'm committed to continuously upping the ante when it comes to performance, and it's great to be doing it with Ford." "The return of the Shelby GT500KR further establishes Mustang as the true king of the pony car segment," said Robert Parker, manager of Ford Car Brand. "With the unveiling of the new KR we are staying true to the promise we made our loyal Mustang fans to continue Mustang's prowess by bringing new, exciting and more powerful Mustangs to market."

Forty years ago, at the 1967 New York Auto Show, Ford introduced the most powerful Shelby Mustang ever. Like every Mustang that bore the name 'Shelby,' the GT500KR carries with it its own unique story.

The 1968 Shelby Cobra GT500KR was a mid-year introduction, based on the 1968 Shelby GT500. Ford added 'Cobra' to the Shelby's moniker to help usher in the beginning of a new performance era at the company. The Cobra name referred to the new 428 Cobra Jet V-8 that was planted under the KR's custom fiberglass hood. It was the engine that would once again vault the Mustang to the head of the pack.

Ford conservatively rated the 428 CJ at 335-horsepower, but in reality it made more than 400-horsepower and 440 pounds-feet of torque. The KR model was also equipped with a modified suspension and was offered both in fastback and convertible models. Ford dealers sold 1,570 GT500KR models in 1968, 1053 fastbacks and 517 convertibles.

While the name 'King of the Road' may have been the perfect fit for the world's most powerful Mustang, it also provided Shelby the chance to steal the thunder from cross-town rival General Motors. As the legend goes, Shelby learned that GM was planning to introduce a high-performance model and call it 'King of the Road.'

Since he had always wanted to use the name, and as one to never miss an opportunity, Shelby set his organization in gear, registering the name and designing new badging for the Cobra Jet-powered Mustang, christening it the GT500KR, and bringing Ford's 'King of the Road' to market before GM ever got a chance to apply the name to their product.

Thoroughbred Pedigree

Just like its 1968 namesake, the 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR builds on the strong foundation of the Shelby GT500. Packing 40 more horses under its custom-designed carbon composite hood, the GT500KR is the most powerful production Ford Mustang ever produced.

The modern Shelby Mustang line-up started with the 2007 Shelby GT500 coupe and convertible. With the recent launch of the 2007 Shelby GT, the 2008 Shelby GT500KR becomes the third production high-performance Mustang brought to market through the relationship of Shelby Automobiles and Ford. Ford and Shelby Automobiles also partnered up with Hertz to produce a special limited run of 500 Shelby GT-H "rent-a-racer" Mustangs available only for rent.

The 2007 Shelby GT500 has been one of the most successful vehicle programs in the 14-year history of Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT) and that success has opened the door for more performance collaborations with Shelby Automobiles and Ford Racing. Working together, these three performance powerhouses are driving Mustang momentum on the street and on the racetrack. Dealers cannot keep the cars on their lots, customers are clamoring for more, and racers are bringing home championships.

Shelby Mustangs have already achieved some impressive highlights showcasing an enthusiast demand that is unmatched in the business:
-The first 2007 Shelby GT500 available to the public sold for $600,000 dollars at the 2006 Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, AZ benefiting the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation.
-2007 Shelby GT VIN#1 also went for $600,000 at charity auction, this time at the 2007 Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction (and the winning bidder also took the opportunity to purchase VIN#2 at MSRP).
-Shelby GT-H coupes auctioned off to Ford dealers after completion of Hertz rental duty consistently average $50,000, with high auction bids of $90,000.

The Shelby GT500KR will be produced in an exclusive run of 1000 units and will begin arriving in Ford dealers in the spring of 2008.

Crowning the New "King of the Road"

Doug Gaffka, Ford SVT chief designer, and his team worked closely with Carroll Shelby and the Shelby team to make certain the new KR was crafted in the spirit of the original Shelby muscle car.

"This was a great effort between Ford and Shelby Automobiles," said Gaffka. "The Shelby team and I were in constant contact melding Carroll's classic design cues with some modern concepts and ideas and finessing them into the design of the new KR."

Gary Davis, vice president of production and product development for Shelby Automobiles, played a key role in defining the look of the custom designed carbon composite hood for the GT500KR. His knowledge of the original GT500KR helped sculpt a modern interpretation of the original's bulging hood scoop, a visual indication of the extra horsepower packed beneath it. The hood is secured by a pair of stainless steel, twist-down hood pins. The composite front valance houses a pair of chrome-trimmed, functional brake ducts to cool the large 14-inch, vented Brembo front brakes.

Side stripes are true to the original KR right down to the font used for the 'GT500KR' lettering, while the classic LeMans-style striping that races down the center of the car has been deleted between the leading forward edge of the hood scoops and the front of the hood, accenting the scoops and giving the KR its distinctive face. "That was Shelby's idea," said Gaffka. "It's a special touch that adds some down-the-road differentiation. There will be no doubt that it's a 'King of the Road' Mustang that's filling up your rearview mirrors."

The show car wears exclusive, Shelby-designed 20-inch, forged, polished aluminum wheels with special custom center caps, mounted on Pirelli rubber. Production models will arrive with an 18-inch version of the design.

Each KR model is identified by special 40th Anniversary KR badges on the fenders and grille, distinctive body colored mirror caps and Shelby lettering stretching across the front of the hood and along the rear portion of the deck lid. A special Shelby VIN tag is affixed to each vehicle, mounted in the engine compartment.

The all-leather interior features Carroll Shelby signature embroidered headrests and an official Shelby CSM 40th Anniversary GT500KR dash plate mounted at the top of the center stack.

The KR's 5.4-liter V-8 Gets the Royal Treatment

Just like its namesake, the 2008 'King of the Road' packs a walloping dose of Ford performance power under its massive composite hood scoops. The Ford SVT-engineered 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 is treated to a Ford Racing Power Upgrade Pack that boosts horsepower to an estimated 540 and torque to 510 ft.-lbs., thanks to revised ignition and throttle calibration and a cold air intake system that replaces the stock unit.

Calibration modifications include advancing the ignition timing as well as re-mapping of the electronic throttle settings to provide quicker throttle response for better off-line and mid-range acceleration. Increased throttle response will be met with a sharper roar from the Ford Racing-inspired exhaust system.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission and 3.73:1 rear axle ratio, upgraded from the standard GT500's 3.31:1. Gear selection is courtesy of an all-new Ford Racing short-throw shifter making its debut on the KR. Topped with a white ball, the new shifter is 25 percent shorter than the unit on the GT500 providing for crisper, sharper shifts.

Ford SVT, Ford Racing and Team Shelby worked together to develop the KR's suspension tuning. Based on initial work by Ford Racing and the team at Shelby, often at Shelby's own facility on the grounds of Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Ford SVT chassis engineers will apply fine tuning techniques to prepare it for the streets.

"The production Shelby GT500 was maximized to deliver the perfect balance between ride and handling," said Jamal Hameedi, chief nameplate engineer, Ford SVT. "In that same ride versus handling continuum, the KR will lean heavier towards all-out handling while still making it drivable on the street."

Chassis engineers worked closely with the engine department in a holistic approach to the development of the KR, tuning the suspension to best optimize the engine enhancements.

"We aren't fixing our attention on one or two attributes, but working on the vehicle as a whole," stated Gary Patterson, vice president of operations for Shelby Automobiles. "The throttle response, power delivery, exhaust note, and handling should all gel together to deliver a total driving experience."

The GT500KR will feature unique spring rates, dampers, stabilizer bars, and strut tower brace, all designed specifically for the KR, to deliver the precision handling package.

Mustang Momentum Cannot be Stopped

Unwilling to wait for the impending pony car war to heat up, Ford is extending Mustang's leadership position by feeding the enthusiast demand for more models, features, performance parts, and special editions. Ford has committed to at least one new Mustang 'feature' vehicle per year. For 2007, it is the Shelby GT, and for 2008, there will be at least two including the Shelby GT500KR and the previously announced Mustang Bullitt. Ford's 'Steed for Every Need' strategy currently offers four horsepower options for Mustang, with pricing from $19,995 for a 240-hp V-6 Mustang coupe to $46,500 for a 500-hp Shelby GT500 convertible.

Ford has also introduced several special packages on Mustang further increasing its unique offerings, including the Pony Package and the California Special. In addition, Ford Racing offers a complete catalog of performance parts for Mustang fans, from custom wheels and exhausts to the complete, turn-key Ford Racing Mustang FR500C race car.

As a result, Ford offers Mustang enthusiasts the ability to buy, modify and drive the steed that perfectly fits their need.
